I’m really happy to share that I’ve just started a new research stay at Universitat de Barcelona, working with Carlos Lopezosa. Even though this isn’t my first academic stay, I’ve decided to begin writing about this one and go back to the previous experiences in future posts. (This blog is just getting started, so please bear with me 🙏🏻).
My work focuses on something I truly enjoy: understanding how patents are positioned and made visible in digital environments, from repositories and academic platforms to social media. The idea is to use this knowledge as a foundation for creating new indicators that can help improve how research is shared, evaluated, and understood both inside and outside academia. Since this is quite an ambitious goal, during this stay I’m going to focus on how the documents are positioned on search engines. Something that Carlos and the UB team know very well.
I’ve been welcomed by the Department of Library Science, Documentation and Audiovisual Communication, and honestly, I couldn’t ask for a better environment. Everyone has been incredibly kind, supportive, and open, which makes the whole experience even more enriching.
In the past, I’ve had the chance to do research stays with Mike Thelwall in the UK and Rafa Pedraza at the UPF, and I’ll definitely share more about those adventures in upcoming posts as they deserve.
For now, I’m just enjoying being here, learning every day, and feeling inspired by the people around me =)
See you on the adventure ahead!
