abstract = {This chapter analyzes SciTube as an emerging business model in audiovisual science communication, addressing the need for intermediary mechanisms that enable the adaptation of scientific results for non-specialized audiences through new formats and digital channels, particularly video on platforms such as YouTube. Through a description of SciTube’s operational model, the chapter examines its production processes, from the transformation of scientific articles into animated videos to their dissemination in digital environments. The findings identify key strengths of the model, including technical quality, scientific validation, and its potential to enhance research visibility. However, several limitations are also highlighted, particularly those related to researchers’ adoption, funding constraints, and certain technical aspects such as accessibility and metadata optimization.
Overall, SciTube exemplifies a professional intermediary model in science communication that responds to current information consumption dynamics, opening up new opportunities —and challenges— for knowledge transfer in the digital era.},

abstract = {Patent disclosure is a central component of the innovation ecosystem, yet it has often been treated as secondary to the exclusionary legal function of patents. This chapter examines patent disclosure from a dual perspective: as a structural requirement of the patent system and as a strategic communication practice aimed at knowledge transfer. Drawing on the author’s source materials and on academic and institutional literature, the chapter first analyses the quid pro quo logic underpinning the patent system: inventions are made public in exchange for a temporary right to exclude others. Second, it explores the visibility of patent documents as sources of technological, legal, and commercial information, as well as their contribution to

Third, it proposes a framework for the public communication of patents by distinguishing audiences, goals, languages, and channels. Finally, it provides examples and practical recommendations for communicating patents without oversimplifying them: translating without betraying, explaining the problem solved, distinguishing between applications and granted patents, and supporting communication with sources, context, and accessible visualisations. The chapter concludes that patents should not be understood merely as legal titles of protection, but also as knowledge circulation devices whose social value depends largely on their intelligibility and on the quality of their communication},

Este estudio caracteriza la producción de vídeos de divulgación científica publicados por la empresa SciTube, que combina producción audiovisual profesional con validación académica. Operando como canal público de divulgación y servicio de comunicación científica, convirtiéndola en un caso relevante para analizar estrategias profesionales en YouTube.
Método. Se diseñó un análisis mixto basado en 33 variables cuantitativas y cualitativas, organizadas en seis dimensiones. Los metadatos de los 411 vídeos publicados entre 2019 y 2025 se obtuvieron mediante la API de YouTube, mientras que las variables narrativas, visuales, sonoras y de accesibilidad se analizaron mediante observación directa de 50 vídeos recientes.
Análisis. Se realizó un análisis estadístico descriptivo de los metadatos y un análisis de contenido sistemático de los vídeos seleccionados para identificar patrones de producción y estrategias narrativas asociadas a mayor rendimiento y engagement.
Resultados. Se observa un crecimiento continuo, con una duración media cercana a cuatro minutos y una concentración temática en Medicina y Salud (45,5%). El contenido divulgativo, el tono urgente y la voz femenina se asocian con mayor engagement.
Conclusiones. SciTube ha consolidado un modelo profesionalizado de divulgación científica en YouTube, eficaz en términos narrativos.},

abstract = {This editorial explores the significance of research visibility within the evolving landscape of academic communication, mainly focusing on the role of search engines as online meta-markets shaping the impact of research. With the rapid expansion of scientific output and the increasing reliance on algorithm-driven platforms such as Google and Google Scholar, the online visibility of scholarly work has become an essential factor in determining its reach and influence. The need for more rigorous research into academic search engine optimization (A-SEO), a field still in its infancy despite its growing relevance, is also discussed, highlighting key challenges in the field, including the lack of robust research methodologies, the skepticism within the academic community regarding the commercialization of science, and the need for standardization in reporting and measurement techniques. This editorial thus invites a multidisciplinary dialogue on the future of research visibility, with significant implications for academic publishing, science communication, research evaluation, and the global scientific ecosystem.},
